Garden State Roots—Since 1913

New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company covers about 776,000 vehicles, with approximately 98% of our premiums derived from New Jersey policies. More than 2,300 employees service our policyholders. NJM has continued to faithfully serve policyholders for more than 95 years, regardless of market conditions.

Mutual Respect

NJM operates in a mutual fashion, for the exclusive, long-term benefit of our policyholders. There are no stockholders whose concerns about profits conflict with policyholders receiving exemplary service and fair claims handling. In fact, we are a service organization, not just another insurance company.

A.M. Best Company, the nation's premier insurance-rating agency, rates NJM as A++ (Superior) for our financial strength and ability to pay claims. That's a sign of security that policyholders can trust. Only about 1.5% of rated insurers nationally share this distinction.

Due to careful stewardship, NJM consistently ranks nationally among the best insurers in managing expenses, spending less than 12¢ per premium dollar on administrative costs compared to the industry average of about 26¢.

History of Dividends

The financial benefit of our prudent business operation has been returned directly to policyholders as dividends in every year since 1918. More than $4.7 billion in dividends have been paid during that time. The most recent Special Dividend has been an average $149 check declared in late 2008 for Personal Auto policyholders with NJM policies issued in 2007.

Premium Value

NJM policies run for a full year—not just six months, the way most other auto insurers issue coverage. Our way lets you know your rates will be stable for the entire 12 months. Issuing two policies a year gives other carriers twice as many opportunities to increase premiums.

According to the most recent data (2008), NJM's average annual premium per car was $923, and after dividends just $803—compared to the statewide average annual cost of $1,041 for all insurers.

We're at Your Service

NJM's Personal Lines and Claims staffs are New Jersey and Pennsylvania experts dedicated to your needs, and are available at any of our three offices or by toll-free telephone. As a direct writer, we rely on our own salaried staff to serve policyholders instead of paying sales commissions to agents. In fact, even top executives work for regular salary—no company cars, performance bonuses, tickets to sports events, club memberships, etc.

Compared with other major carriers, NJM has registered among the fewest valid auto insurance complaints filed with the State Department of Banking and Insurance since records began in 1987. In addition, in its most-recent survey, a national consumer magazine ranked NJM #1 for auto insurance customer satisfaction.

Claims reporting and emergency service are available on a 24-hour basis. We also use our own Premier Car Care network of qualified garages, body shops, glass shops and car-rental agencies. While our customers can always choose their own service providers, these quality options enhance NJM's ability to promptly and efficiently handle claims.

No Increases for Claims or Tickets

Tired of "teaser rates" from other insurers when you call or go online? NJM offers account quotes based on driver characteristics and information provided. NJM doesn't increase rates after minor incidents—we realize that even the best drivers make occasional mistakes. However, policyholders who leave NJM and reapply later need to meet our acceptance criteria.

Another Year, Another Renewal …

An insurance contract is a two-way street: the policyholder and the Company trust each other to fulfill their promises. The strength of this relationship is best measured by its long-term stability. In 2008, NJM terminated less than 1% of our personal auto insurance contracts due to adverse underwriting reasons.

New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company is grateful to the hundreds of thousands of policyholders who have trusted us for years—many for decades—to provide them with top-quality auto insurance.
