Mandatory Insurance Inspection

Find Inspection Facilities New Window

Under New Jersey law, many vehicles to be insured for Collision or Other Than Collision Coverage must first be inspected for insurance purposes. The law is intended to reduce insurance fraud by documenting the condition of newly insured private passenger automobiles.

It is important to understand that the mandatory insurance inspection is in addition to the Motor Vehicle Inspection program conducted by the State of New Jersey. The two inspections are separate and unrelated requirements.

For the convenience of our policyholders, the NJM Insurance Group has arranged for the Mandatory Insurance Inspection to be conducted by privately operated facilities located throughout every county in New Jersey. This network was organized in partnership with CARCO, which operates a Web site which can use your town name or county name to find inspection facilities near you.

Whenever a policyholder acquires a vehicle and desires Collision or Other Than Collision Coverage on it, he or she should call the NJM Insurance Group immediately toll-free at 1-800-232-6600. Our customer service representatives will explain everything necessary to comply with the law and obtain the desired coverage.

Until the NJM Insurance Group is notified by phone, the vehicle may not be covered for Collision or Other Than Collision.
