Tips on Handling your Property Damage Claim
What to do after a loss:
- Call NJM to report your claim as soon as possible when an event occurs.
- Protect your property from further damage.
- Make necessary emergency repairs to your covered property to protect it from further loss
(cost of the repairs may be reimbursed by insurance as long as the damage resulted from a covered peril and are subject to applicable coverage limits).
- Take photos of the damaged areas.
- Keep accurate records of repair expenses.
- Prepare an inventory of damaged or stolen property showing the quantity, description, actual cash value and the amount of the loss.
- Keep track of bills, receipts, and related documents.
What to do after a Flood Loss:
- Call NJM to report your loss as soon as possible when an event occurs.
- Protect your property from further damage as much as possible.
- Take photos of the damaged areas (outside and inside).
- If emergency repairs are necessary, proceed with making repairs and retain itemized bills and receipts.
- Remove damaged property from the residence and place outside for the claims representative to examine.
- Prepare a list of damaged items and contents to review with the claims representative.
- Keep records of all cleanup work you have done as a result of the loss to advise the claims representative.
