CONVEYOR SAFETY
— This video is an adaptation from a slide program. It emphasizes many hazards encountered around conveyor belts and conveyor systems. The program clearly points out the need for adequate guarding around belt drives as well as nip points that are created by the head and tail pulleys. It also emphasizes the need for a lockout procedure when servicing and repairing such conveyors. In addition, need for an emergency stop cable along the entire length of the conveyors is emphasized. — This videotape reviews conveyors and the hazards associated with working on or around conveyors. Topics such as shear points, pinch points, nip points and spill points are covered. Oscillating, vibrating, overhead conveyor systems and reciprocating conveyors also are discussed. The necessity of drive guards and coupling guards, having a lockout/tagout system, and avoiding loose jewelry and clothing are covered, as well as using approved crossing areas. Only approved, trained operators should use the conveyor. (10 Minutes)
