FALL ARREST SYSTEMS This video demonstrates a basic review of Personal Fall Arrest (PFA) systems. It begins with an awareness of when to use fall protection systems and what OSHA requires. HEARING PROTECTION: HLP & PPE This video emphasizes that noise induced hearing loss is permanent but preventable. It reviews the OSHA regulations and defines what employers are required to do. This includes providing hearing protection, training, establishing baseline audiograms, and performing annual audiograms. The video explains what an audiogram tells you and also how it is compared to the baseline audiogram. The three types of PPE are defined: 1) ear plugs, 2) canal caps, and 3) ear muffs. How to wear and check for proper installation is covered, as well as the care and maintenance for all types of protection. HAND PROTECTION This video reviews the appropriate use of gloves. The different exposures and types of gloves to prevent the particular exposure are covered including 1) chemicals latex, rubber, neoprene, nitrile, 2) heat and sparks leather, 3) cuts and lacerations stainless steel mesh, Kevlar, rubber and leather, 4) electrical and, 5) general work gloves cotton. RESPIRATOR MAINTENANCE Just wearing respirators is not enough. Respirators need to be maintained to protect you from the airborne hazards for which they were designed. A regimen of routine inspections need to be performed including visual checks and negative and positive air checks. Cleaning with soap, water and a disinfectant are covered. FALL PROTECTION: THE BASICS This humorous video visits the laboratory of Frank and Larry at Tests-R-Us. They review the purpose of fall protection, which is to prevent disastrous falls and limit the distance an employee can fall. Passive systems discussed include railings, nets, covers, and cages. The reason why guardrails must be over 42 inches is discussed. Next the video covers active fall protection systems including harnesses, lanyard lifelines and anchorage connectors.
