THE CASINO: AMERICA'S CRISIS —
This video program provides a very candid discussion between members of several union contractors as well as representatives from various building trade unions. Essentially, the program calls for both parties to work together to bring the workers’ compensation costs under control by implementing a comprehensive workers' compensation program. This includes establishing a job site specific safety plan with zero accidents as the goal, as well as the intention to eliminate fraudulent workers’ compensation claims. This is an extremely motivational video and stresses the absolute necessity of a partnership between labor and management. Although it centers around the construction industry, the message is appropriate for any industry. (25 Minutes)

ASBESTOS AWARENESS: ARE YOU AT RISK? —
This program explains what asbestos is, where it can be found, and how to avoid its hazards. Regulatory requirements in the area of hazard communication, monitoring, permissible exposure limits, and regulated areas are discussed. This presentation gives an understandable overview of the subject. (20 Minutes)

#415
ASBESTOS: SMALL SCALE, SHORT DURATION ACTIVITIES —
This two video presentation provides step-by-step instruction on maintenance jobs involving asbestos, including pipe insulation removal, gasket replacement, and pump packing operations. Working safely above drop ceilings where asbestos is present is also discussed. Glove bag and non-glove bag techniques are demonstrated. The use of the wet method to reduce friability is encouraged. (29 Minutes)

#425
SCAFFOLDS —
This program discusses the main types of accidents including falls, while putting up or taking down a scaffold; falls while climbing; and falls while working on a scaffold. The proper steps to be taken to prevent such accidents and the features of various scaffolds are also covered. The correct erection procedure for a tubular frame scaffold is explained step-by-step. (16 Minutes)

#549
IT ALWAYS HAPPENS TO THE OTHER GUY
— This video is targeted at operators of heavy equipment. Hosted by actor James Whitmore and stuntman Bob Harris, the video demonstrates what always seems to happen to the other guy. Safety laws govern protective equipment and certain operating procedures, but safety is up to you. Various pieces of equipment and safety precautions particular to each piece are reviewed, and demonstrations of the consequences of not following these guidelines are given. The equipment covered includes scrapers, excavators, backhoe/loaders, wheel loaders, motor graders and crawler loader or dozers. Emphasis is placed on always wearing seat belts and hard hats, but the bottom line message is, "There is no other guy - it's you!" (21 Minutes)

#550
EMERGENCY RESPONSE FOR OFF-ROAD HEAVY HAUL TRUCKS
— The video is presented in two parts. Part One covers statistics and basics such as pre-operation inspection procedures, wearing seat belts and checking around the machine. An interactive multiple choice scenario is presented and covers path obstruction, brake failure and engine failure. Concepts highlighted include understanding equipment, instant response, control of speed, maintenance of travel roads, testing road conditions, imagining situations before they happen and knowing how to use runaway ramps. Part Two of the video emphasizes fluid checks. Covered are fluid leaks, steering system failure, drive shaft failure, transmission failure, stuck throttle, onboard fires and pile collapse. Main concepts emphasized include stopping machines, steering around obstacles, and engaging secondary systems. (39 Minutes)

#551
CONVEYOR MAINTENANCE SAFETY (AGGREGATE OPERATIONS)
— Most conveyor injuries occur during routine maintenance operations. This video presents a review of safety procedures including the most important rule of never cleaning or performing maintenance around a moving conveyor. Other points reviewed are lockout procedures and use of warning signs. Emphasis is placed on orienting new employees and reminding experienced employees of these procedures. (17 Minutes)

RIGGING: INSPECTION
— This video stresses the importance of periodic inspections and regular daily inspections of rigging equipment. Detailed inspection procedures for various equipment are reviewed including synthetic web slings, metal mesh slings, chain link, wire rope and hardware. The importance of establishing and maintaining records for new and current inventory is emphasized. (17 Minutes)

#556
THE SAFE OPERATION OF OVERHEAD CRANES
— Overhead cranes are very prevalent in industry due to their ability to ease material handling efforts. When an accident occurs, it can be catastrophic. Accidents usually can be attributed to: lack of adequate inspections, overloading and lack of operator knowledge. This video emphasizes five points for the safe operation of overhead cranes — pre-operational checks, operational checks, planning the lift, operational rules and shutdown procedures. How to properly inspect chain and wire rope hoists is covered as well as pivot points, hoist drums and the overhead crane itself. Operational checks should include power, control, emergency stops, warning devices, limit switches and brakes. Planning the lift covers weight, dimension, characteristics, correct slinging and site specific hazards. Operational rules include safe weight of the load, lifting lugs, shock loading, visual contact, emergency procedures, never walk below load, leaving load suspended and dragging loads. A nine-step shutdown procedure is demonstrated. The video emphasizes that safe operation takes a dedicated effort of all involved. (18 Minutes)

#557
INSPECTION, CARE & STORAGE OF SLINGS
— This video reviews various types of lifting equipment and accessories. The four "musts" reviewed for continued safe application of all lifting equipment are pre-use checks, care of equipment, planned periodic inspections and correct storage. Proper pre-use checks for chain slings, wire ropes and fiber slings are emphasized. Items to note include twisted links, cuts, dents, gouges, cracks, excessive wear and corrosion, damaged master links or connections, broken wires, birdcaging, stains, damage to sling eyes and hard spots. Recording results of inspections in a permanent log is covered as well as proper storage guidelines. (16 Minutes)

#563
PERSONAL FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS
— The types of personal fall protection systems, components of those systems, planning, maintenance and inspection are the major topics covered in this video. The three kinds of systems reviewed are positioning device systems, fall protection systems for climbing activities and fall arrest systems. The type of system used should match the work and minimize the fall distance. The importance of fall hazard training, correct procedures, limitations, anchor/tie-off points, inspection and storage are reviewed. Explained very clearly are why lock clips must be used, why shock absorbing lanyards are important and why body belts should never be used in lieu of body harnesses. Horizontal lifelines, vertical lifelines and self-retracting lifelines are also covered. (18:45 Minutes)

TAKE TIME FOR SAFETY
— In our busy lives, we often are faced with time-management choices. When given the chance, we must always choose safety over time savings, because rushing causes us to lose focus, skip steps, and make bad decisions. In fact, the time we spend staying safe is time well spent. In this program, workers learn the very real hazards associated with rushing and being in a hurry. Through various examples, viewers will learn to recognize the symptoms of becoming rushed, why "hurried working" is so dangerous and what steps they can take to stay safe. The program also makes the point that being in a hurry is not the real cause of incidents and injuries, but rather a symptom of poor planning, poor choices and poor time-management – all of which can be prevented by proper preparation and organization. (DVD FORMAT – 16 Minutes)

CONSTRUCTION FORKLIFTS
— According to OSHA, 85 people die and 100,000 are injured yearly because of unsafe forklift operations — 100,000! But through proper forklift training, these accidents could be prevented, fines can be avoided and potential lawsuits averted. This important key resource will help you comply with OSHA's Final Powered Industrial Truck Standard (1910.178) and maintain workplace safety.
