IMPROVING INDOOR AIR QUALITY Everyone can do something to improve indoor air quality. The recommendations set forth by EPA and NIOSH in the Indoor Air Quality Guide are reviewed. The goals of an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) program should be to prevent, identify and correct IAQ problems. The factors that affect IAQ are 1) sources of contaminants 2) occupants and 3) pollutant pathways. Topics covered in this program include plants, water leaks, asbestos, carbon monoxide, vehicle exhaust, cigarette smoke, humidifiers, air cleaners, housekeeping, sick building syndrome and recognizing the signs and symptoms.
