Anthony G. Dickson Retires as NJM's President & CEO

15-Year Company veteran Bernard M. Flynn named as successor

Anthony G. Dickson is retiring after 17 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and its three insurance subsidiaries and nearly 32 years as a Company employee. Bernard M. Flynn, Esq., CPCU, NJM's Executive Vice President and General Counsel, was elected at NJM's Annual Meetings to succeed Mr. Dickson. Mr. Flynn has been a Company employee since 1993.

The Board of Directors has requested that Mr. Dickson continue to influence the Company's path by retaining his seat on the Board. He also is being asked to continue his service as Chairman of NJM Bank FSB, the Company's wholly owned financial services subsidiary.

Mr. Dickson joined NJM in 1976. He became Government Affairs Counsel in 1979 and moved up through a progression of positions including Assistant Vice President and later Vice President and Secretary. He became NJM's President in 1991, later adding the titles of Chairman and Director of NJM Bank when that institution opened in 1999.

Concurrent with his tenure at NJM, Mr. Dickson served on many Boards and Commissions. These include the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, a national property-casualty insurance trade association that elected him as its first Chairman in 2004, and the Alliance of American Insurers, which he chaired from 2002 to 2003. In addition to membership in several other insurance-related groups, Mr. Dickson also served on the Board of Rider University, Lawrence, NJ, from 1995 to 2005, South Jersey Industries, Folsom, NJ, from 1995 to 1999, and the former CoreStates Bank (now part of Wachovia) from 1994 to 1997.

Mr. Dickson, a 1970 graduate of Rutgers College who received his law degree from Rutgers Law School in 1973, served as Counsel to the State Commission of Investigation before coming to NJM.

The election of Mr. Flynn culminates a transition process that began a year ago with Mr. Dickson's announcement of his pending retirement. The Board's vote confirms the high quality of individuals present on the Company's senior management team, with a demonstrated history of business leadership and policyholder advocacy. Drawing a leader from within that team helps assure continuity of the organization's unique service-oriented culture.

NJM is a private company, with the stock held in trust for the benefit of policyholders. That is why the benefit of financial operations has been returned to policyholders as dividends every year since 1918, now totaling more than $4.5 billion.

"As Tony often promised, our policyholders can rest assured that NJM will never become 'just another insurance company,'" Mr. Flynn said. ''NJM has always followed the philosophies of Stewardship, Integrity and Service. There are no stockholders whose quest for quick profits could jeopardize the long-term well-being of our customers.

"Tony Dickson saw NJM through a great deal of transition during his time as President. From the tempestuous days of costly, State-arranged high-risk auto insurance schemes to today's highly competitive marketplace, Tony has provided strong leadership, always with a focus upon the policyholder's benefit," Mr. Flynn continued. "He has also been a staunch advocate for New Jersey's fair, efficient Workers' Compensation system. That dedication on the part of top management and our entire staff will surely continue."

Mr. Flynn, 47, of Delran, N.J., first joined NJM as a staff attorney in 1993. He later served in various capacities before being elected Vice President and General Counsel in 2001, and then Executive Vice President and General Counsel in January 2008. Mr. Flynn is a 1982 graduate of Fordham University and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law, Camden, in 1986. He also earned the designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 2001.

Before starting his NJM career, Mr. Flynn was a Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Law, Department of Law and Public Safety, for five years, representing the Department of Insurance and the Department of Transportation.

NJM Insurance Group is New Jersey's largest provider of Workers' Compensation policies, the leading insurer of private passenger vehicles, and a prominent carrier of Commercial Automobile and Residential coverages. NJM Bank offers deposit and loan accounts for individual and commercial customers. The Group has 2,361 insurance, banking and support employees working at its Main Office in West Trenton, North Jersey Office in Parsippany, and South Jersey Office in Hammonton.
