October is the season of pumpkin-carving, leaf-raking, and pie-baking. While it’s a great time for stay-at-home fun, it’s also a time for some of New Jersey’s best events and festivals! Here are some family-friendly October events:

Great Pumpkin Train – Running in Phillipsburg on October weekends through the end of the month, you can take the Great Pumpkin Train to the corn maze or for a scenic ride along the Delaware. Every child is welcome to pick a free pumpkin.

Just Jersey Food Truck & Music Festival – On Saturday, October 10, at Waterloo Village Concert Field, enjoy more than 30 gourmet food trucks and live bands, as well as children’s activities, a mechanical bull, vendors, and more. The event benefits GiGi’s Playhouse of Hillsboro, Morris Rugby, and the Roxbury Food Pantry. Bring a can or boxed item to donate and save $1 on admission.

Harvest Moon Hayride & Night Time Corn Maze – For some fun every Friday and Saturday through October 24 (and Sunday, October 11), head to Chester for hayrides and corn mazes, plus a DJ, campfire, and unlimited hot and cold cider!

Bordentown City Historic Ghost Walk – On Sunday, October 25, at the Old Book Shop on Farnsworth Avenue, take the one-hour, guided walking tour of the town’s historic district while hearing ghostly tales of Bordentown City! Appropriate for all ages.

Tranquility Farms Fall Festival – Throughout October, this Allamuchy farm full of free fun includes a hayride to the pumpkin field, a corn maze, kid’s tent, playground, bounce pillow, and petting zoo! No admission fee.
