NJM Insurance Group awards $2,500 to Atlantic County high school

WEST TRENTON, NJ — NJM Insurance Group, one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading property casualty insurers and teen driving safety advocates, presented the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) with a $2,500 check as the winner of its second annual "Just Drive" online pledge competition. The award will go toward ACIT's Driver Education Program and help cover the installation cost of parking lot signage reminding students to "Just Drive."

"We are so proud of our student population and the community members who took this pledge to help bring awareness to teen driver safety," said Dana Seaver, ACIT driver education instructor. "This issue hits close to home for so many people. We are grateful for the important role that NJM plays in helping teens develop driving behaviors that help keep them safe."

Last year, U.S. News and World Report recognized ACIT as one of the top high schools in the country. The four-year, county-wide vocational school has also been distinguished as a Blue Ribbon School for academic excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.

NJM created the "Just Drive" campaign in 2017 to raise awareness about distracted driving, which is now considered a national epidemic. The competition received more than 6,200 pledges from students at 100 high schools, along with their friends, family, and members of the community. ACIT was the top finisher with 432 pledges.

"We're thrilled with the response we received to this year's pledge competition," said Violet Marrero, NJM consumer safety director. "More than 6,000 drivers willingly said that they will commit to 'just drive,' and we look forward to growing that number in the future. On behalf of NJM, I applaud ACIT staff and students for helping create a culture of safety within their community by promoting this program."
