Insurance Fraud Prevention

NJM's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has supported the payment of legitimate claims for more than 50 years. Its goal is to reduce the effect of fraud on insurance premiums by detecting and preventing fraudulent claims.

The SIU Director is an attorney who previously worked as a criminal prosecutor at the county and state levels. The SIU staff includes former law enforcement professionals and veteran claims adjusters.

Types of possible fraud include:

  • Faked injuries,

  • Minor injuries that are exaggerated,

  • An employee earning wages elsewhere while collecting workers’ compensation disability benefits, or

  • Legitimate injuries or illnesses reported as work-related, which actually occurred off the job.

Civil and criminal penalties may be assessed for insurance fraud. Please report any information relevant to possible fraud involving an individual's right to receive insurance benefits.
