NJM Milestones

1913 - New Jersey Manufacturers Casualty Insurance Company is founded to fulfill President Woodrow Wilson’s campaign pledge to provide injured workers with medical care and partial wage replacement. NJM is established to provide workers' compensation to New Jersey’s growing business community.

1921 - NJM forms a subsidiary to provide commercial and personal auto insurance, and homeowners coverage, thereby expanding services to the employees of its commercial customers.

1940s - NJM becomes the leader in workers' compensation insurance in New Jersey. The innovations of its Engineering Department help customers reduce and avoid accidents in workplaces that would lead to higher premiums.

1960s - Fraud leads to higher premiums and, at times, the loss of honest workers’ jobs. To combat these issues, NJM sets up a special investigations unit to uncover fraudulent and exaggerated claims.

1965 - NJM begins offering workers’ compensation insurance in New York and Pennsylvania.

1966 - NJM’s home office relocates to its current 100-acre campus in West Trenton.

1996 - NJM becomes the first workers’ compensation insurer in New Jersey to be state-certified as its own Managed Care Organization (MCO), providing medical evaluation, case management, claim adjustment and, when appropriate, modified return-to-work programs.

2000 - NJM opens its first South Jersey customer service and claims office in Hammonton.

2013 - 100 years young! NJM launches its Teen Driver Safety Program and a year-long “DNT TXT N DRV” pledge campaign. More than 50,000 people pledge to not text while driving.

2017 - NJM announces the expansion of its Teen Driver Safety Program to include “Share the Keys,” a nationally recognized program that encourages parental involvement in the teen licensing process.

2018 - NJM begins offering workers’ compensation insurance in Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland. Additionally, the Company removes membership restrictions and begins offering its auto, homeowners, renters, and umbrella insurance products to all New Jersey and Pennsylvania residents.

2020 - NJM begins offering its personal auto, home, condo, renters, and umbrella insurance products to Connecticut residents.

2021 - NJM begins offering its personal auto, home, condo, renters, and umbrella insurance products to Ohio and Maryland residents. NJM introduces two new products for businesses: ProEdge Businessowners Policy and commercial excess and umbrella insurance.

2022 - NJM becomes the “Total Insurance Solution” for businesses with the introduction of ProPack Commercial Package Policy.

2024 - For the seventh year in a row, NJM is certified by J.D. Power for providing “An Outstanding Auto Claims Experience” to its Personal Lines customers.
