NJM Insurance Group Donates $75,000 to Teen Driver Safety Efforts, Including $15,000 to Brain Injury Alliance Organizations

BIA Donations Mark the Conclusion of a Pivotal Year for NJM's Teen Driver Safety Programs

WEST TRENTON, NJ — NJM Insurance Group, a leading auto insurer and teen driver safety advocate in the Mid-Atlantic region, is donating a combined $15,000 to the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania, and Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut. Each organization will receive $5,000 to support future programming surrounding brain injury education.

"NJM is committed to keeping our roads safe, especially for teen drivers, who face the greatest risk of brain injury and death from car accidents," said Violet Marrero, NJM Consumer Safety Director. "We are proud to work with organizations like the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut, Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey, and Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania to educate teen drivers on safe driving practices."

The donation follows an eventful year for NJM's Teen Driver Safety Programs. Early in 2020, NJM partnered with Impact Teen Drivers to expand its safety programming in Western Pennsylvania and Connecticut. The Company also made Share the Keys and "What Do You Consider Lethal?" available online, free of charge, allowing it to reach 9,300 students, parents, and educators in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania during coronavirus-related remote learning. To register for a presentation, visit justdrive.njm.com/online.

NJM also continued its campaign to reduce distracted driving. In the 2019–2020 school year, 76 schools participated in NJM's second annual "Just Drive" PSA Contest. The winning schools received a combined $30,000 toward a post-prom, post-graduation, or safe driving program. Additionally, 2,260 people in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania signed the "Just Drive" Pledge to commit to distraction-free driving. To take the pledge, visit justdrive.njm.com/pledge.

Throughout October, NJM spread the safe driving message with a social media campaign and online driving safety quiz. In addition, NJM hosted the "Share the Keys" Instagram Reels challenge during Teen Driver Safety Week (October 18–24). Safety partners throughout the region participated in the challenge, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Carli Lloyd, 2020 Miss New Jersey Jade Glab, and others.

NJM also supported the 10th Annual U Got Brains? Champions School Showcase hosted by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey. The three grand prize winners of the showcase each received $10,000 for their public service campaigns on driver safety.

"We thank everyone who participated in these efforts to make the roads safer for everyone this year," said Marrero. "We look forward to continuing to reduce distracted driving, engage teen drivers in our programs, and spread the safe driving message in 2021."
