NJM covers more than 840,000 vehicles, with approximately 98% of our premiums derived from New Jersey policies. Approximately 2,500 employees service our policyholders. NJM has continued to faithfully serve policyholders for over 100 years, regardless of market conditions.
NJM operates in a mutual fashion, for the sole benefit of our policyholders. There are no stockholders whose concerns about profits conflict with policyholders receiving exemplary service and superior claims handling. In fact, we consider ourselves to be a service organization, not just another New Jersey insurance company.
History of Dividends
The tradition of dividends is a signature feature of NJM. Adding enhanced value to its policies, NJM has returned dividends to policyholders in every year without interruption since 1918, for a total of more than $6.0 billion. The regular dividend rate for personal auto policies written in 2016 and renewing in 2017 is currently 5%.
In late 2016, special dividends were once again declared for personal auto policyholders, marking the 23rd consecutive year in which customers benefited from not just one — but two — annual dividends. On average, special dividend checks totaled $118 for each customer.
NJM policies run for a full year, not just six months, the way most other auto insurers issue coverage. Our way ensures your rates will be stable for the entire 12 months. Issuing two policies a year gives other carriers twice as many opportunities to increase premiums.

While our customers can always choose their own service providers, these quality options enhance NJM's ability to promptly and efficiently handle claims.
In addition, Roadside Assistance, included with every auto policy, is available 24/7 throughout the United States and Canada.
